various provinces across the country are organizing and implementing the construction of key laboratories. As of April 11th, 

a total of over 200 provincial key laboratories are under construction!

Over 200 Provincial Key Laboratories Under Construction Nationwide

According to statistics, as of April 11th, 2022, there are a total of 229 provincial key laboratories under construction nationwide. 

From the publicly disclosed lists, the number of provincial key laboratories under construction varies in different regions, 

with Liaoning, Fujian, Shanxi, 

and Guangdong having over 30 laboratories each.

For example, in September 2021, the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province announced the list 

of proposed projects for 

platform and basic conditions construction for the years 2021 to 2022. Seventeen discipline-based provincial key laboratories, 

ten enterprise-based provincial key laboratories, 

and three provincial key laboratories jointly established by provinces and cities were included.

What are the differences in construction standards across different regions?

What are the standards for the construction of key laboratories in different regions? Each region's official documents provide 

requirements and directions.

For instance, Zhejiang Province has set requirements for laboratory construction regarding site area and instrument equipment:

 provincial laboratories 

must have good scientific research conditions, with a site area of over 2,000 square meters if there is a relatively concentrated 

scientific research area, 

and the original value of scientific research equipment should exceed 20 million yuan.

Yunnan Province stipulates: good scientific research facilities and instrument conditions are required, with the area of key 

laboratories should be over 1,000 square meters,

 with concentrated physical space and clear boundaries; the total value (original value) of scientific research equipment 

should be over 10 million yuan.

Liaoning Province, which ranks first in the number of provincial key laboratories nationwide, stipulates: the area of provincial

 laboratories should generally not be less than 1,000 square meters,

 and the total value (original value) of scientific research equipment should be over 5 million yuan.

Which fields are more focused on?

Classifying the 229 provincial key laboratories under construction according to their focused areas, life health, materials, 

agriculture and forestry, information technology, 

mechanical equipment, artificial intelligence, ecological environment, geology, electronics, and oceanography rank among

 the top ten fields in various provinces.

Under the guidance of national policies, various regions are strengthening research investment in the field of life and health. 

For example, the "Fourteenth Five-Year Plan for the Development of Health Care in Zhejiang Province" mentions focusing

 on major medical innovations such as precision diagnosis, 

targeted therapy, biomaterials, and translational medicine, establishing major medical innovation platforms covering multiple 

levels of provinces, cities, and counties, 

and constructing a group of high-level research-oriented hospitals; focusing on pathogen monitoring, strain isolation, 

gene sequencing, testing reagents and vaccine drug development,

 antibody preparation, and other areas, constructing high-level scientific research and innovation carriers in the field of public 

health with international standards and leading domestic levels.

According to statistics, focusing on life and health, around 60 new provincial laboratories were built in 2022, focusing on 

new vaccines, original drugs, precision medicine, 

high-end medical imaging, medical biomaterials, etc.
